Hot Pepper Blends
Yes, capsaicin is safe for birds. Unlike mammals, birds do not have the receptors that make capsaicin feel spicy.
Squirrels and other mammals (looking at you Mr. Raccoon!) have the receptors that make capsaicin feel “spicy”. While it isn’t 100% foolproof, most squirrels will just avoid the capsaicin infused birdseed.
Usage and Feeding Tips
The cylinders will fit on most any cylinder feeder. The blocks, likewise will fit most common block feeders. Each can also be hung with a net. The bells and other shapes generally have a built-in hanger/loop.
These blocks will last much longer than loose birdseed as it will not get kicked around and fall to the ground. Once you offer it to your birds, you will get a better idea of how long they will last give your local bird population. As a point of reference, most people report the 4” cylinder lasts 1-3 weeks or so.
The obvious answer is year round! We find that as the temperatures drop, more enthusiasts buy extra to make sure their feathered friends have an ample supply.
Until you offer them to your feathered friends, it is best to store them in an air-conditioned environment.
As long as it is stored properly, indefinite.
The blocks will not melt in the sun. The rain can dissolve the gelatin and cause the shape to fall apart. We recommend using one of our rain guards to help protect the birdseed from the rain.
It is best to help prevent it from getting wet through the use of a rain guard. If it does get wet, move to a dry area (the sun works great) and allow it to dry. If you see mold, please discard the birdseed.

We box them up safe and sound from our warehouse and ship them within 2 days via UPS (primarily). Occasionally we do use USPS or FedEx depending on the requirements of the delivery address.
We do wish carriers took the same care we do with the birdseed! In the unlikely event yours does arrive damaged, please reference our returns policy (short version: We’ll take care of you!).
